President General Richard Harley Calendine


April  2003 - April 2006

Richard Harley Calendine has been a member of the Order since September 1984.  He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the youngest of four children of Harley William Calendine and Margaret Irene (Armstrong) Calendine. The Calendines with the three older children removed from Chesterhill, Morgan County, Ohio, to Parkersburg before Richard was born. The parents lived to celebrate their 76th wedding anniversary.

 

Mr. Calendine received his B.A. from West Virginia Wesleyan College.  He had two majors (psychology and business) and two minors (philosophy and economics).  He received an assistantship for graduate study at The Ohio State University where he received his M.A. in Psychology.  He married Georgeann Ferree Allard of Portsmouth, Ohio, August 22, 1964.  They met as graduate students at Ohio State.  Georgeann is also a member of the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne through Louis du Bois.  She retired after a forty-year career in physical therapy.  They are now living in Vero Beach, Florida, after spending forty two years in Columbus, Ohio.  They have two daughters: Caren Ferree (Mrs. Jerry Stayer) and Michelle Louise du Bois (Mrs. Jeffrey Wheeler).  They  have two grandchildren: Sophia Catharine du Bois Stayer and Colin Calendine Wheeler.

 

Mr. Calendine worked at The Ohio State University Counseling Center and was licensed as a psychologist in the state of Ohio.  There he compiled a publication for student use entitled COLLEGE MAJORS AS A GUIDE TO CAREER PLANNING.  In addition, he was the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid at Ohio State and became Director of Student Financial Aid at Columbus State Community College where he was later an Admissions Representative and taught a general psychology course.  He had an intermittent private practice in counseling psychology.  After 32 years in higher education, he retired and took a position with the Ohio Historical Society for ten years to lead historical tours of the newly restored Ohio Capitol building in Columbus.

 

He was an Eagle Scout, B.S.A.; Vigil Honor, Order of the Arrow, .B.S.A.; and Assistant Scoutmaster.  He was listed in WHO’S WHO IN OHIO and WHO’S WHO IN THE MIDWEST.  He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Grand Lodge of Theta Xi Fraternity.  He was Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church.  He was a member of New England Lodge No. 4 F&A.M. Worthington, Ohio, with both York and Scottish Rites of Freemasonry completed.  He was a member of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem.  He was a member of Psi Chi (national honorary in psychology); Phi Delta Kappa (national professional honorary in education); Omicron Delta Kappa (national leadership and scholastic honorary); and Director of Section 58 Alpha Phi Omega (national service fraternity).

 

Mr. Calendine, using his proven gateway American ancestor William Kennedy of North Carolina, has established an approved new line to Edward III through Anna Lamont, the grandmother of William Kennedy and the wife of William Crauford of Auchenames in Scotland.
