Henry VII Tudor HENRY VII RIN 256 1485 - 1509 + House of Tudor. + Born at Pembroke, Henry was the son of Edmund Tudor and Margaret Beaufort, a + descendant of John of Gaunt. After the defeat of the Lancastrians at + Tewkesbury, 1st. May,1471, he fled to Brittany with his uncle Jasper, and + later, to France, where they made plans, with other Lancastrian exiles, for the + invasion of England. His victory at Bosworth, and the death of Richard III + there, enabled him to succeed in his claim to the throne, whereby he became + King of England as Henry VII in 1485. He married Elizabeth the daughter of + Edward IV in 1486 and they had four children; Arthur who married the + Spanish Princess Catherine of Aragon and who predeceased his father at the + age of 16, Henry who later became Henry VIII, Margaret who married James IV + of Scotland, and Mary. Henry VII had married solely for political reasons as + Elizabeth was the heiress of the rival House. However, after their marriage he + fell deeply in love with her and was heartbroken on her death. During his + reign Henry had few military concerns other than to put down a few minor + pretenders to the throne and to suppress an uprising by the Cornish. He + was a most able administrator and accumulated great wealth for the throne. + He had a shrewd way of selecting the right man for the job and led the + country from disorder into a position of great strength. He instituted the + establishment of envoys in foreign countries and encouraged trade with the + Continent. He also formed the Yeomen of the Guard at the Tower of London. + Henry died at Richmond on Sunday 22nd April 1509 and he and his wife are + buried at Westminster Abbey. Elsewhere, great discoveries were being made. In + 1492 Columbus discovered the West Indies, in 1497 John Cabot discovered + Newfoundland and in 1498 Vasco da Gama opened the sea route to India. He was the King of England; 1485-1509.1 Henry VII Tudor was also known as Henry VII.1,2 He was born on 28 January 1457 at Castle, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales. He married Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV Plantagenet and Elizabeth Woodville, on 18 January 1486 at Westminster Abbey, London, England.3,1,4 Henry VII Tudor died on 21 April 1509 at Richmond Palace, London, England, at age 52.1 He was buried on 11 May 1509 at Westminster Abbey, London, England.

Elizabeth Hardwicke married an unknown person. She Extract from Burkes Peerage. She Married four times, Robert Barley of Barley, co. Derby; to Sir William Cavendish; to William St. Loe, Capt. of the Guard to Queen Elizabeth; finally to George Talbot, 6th. Earl of Shrewsbury. She prevailed on the first of these gentlemen, who died without issue, to settle his estate on her and her heirs, who were abundantly produced from her second marriage. Her third husband, who was very rich, was led by her persuasions to make a similar disposition of his fortune, to the utter predudice of his daughters by a former wife; and now, unsated with the wealth and caresses of three husbands, she finished her conquests by marrying the Earl of Shrewsbury, the richest and most powerful Peer of his time. To sum up her character, 'she was a woman of a masculine ubderstanding and conduct; proud, furious, selfish and unfeeling'. She lived to a great old age, and died 13th April, 1607, immensely rich. She married George Talbot, son of Francis Talbot and Mary Dacre, on 9 February 1568. Elizabeth Hardwicke died on 13 February 1607.
